Slices are halfway between a cake and a tart – they can be made of one mixture, or can combine a base (biscuit or pastry) covered with a topping and/or a filling.
Here are some Test Kitchen tips for baking a slice recipe.
-
Use aluminium trays: pans made from tin and stainless steel don’t conduct heat as easily.
-
Preheating the oven is important for slices as they require less than 30 minutes of baking. Preheat for around 10 minutes before placing the food in the oven.
How to store a slice
Most slices will keep for 2 to 3 days in an airtight container. But do refrigerate those containing dairy products.
Can a slice be frozen?
Most slices can be frozen for up to two months, but those with icings and cream fillings may crack and change in appearance as they thaw.
Our delicious slices make the perfect addition to any lunchbox or afternoon tea. So whether it’s chocolate you crave or something a little bit fruitier, you won’t go wrong with these little slices of heaven.
