Butter cream


1.Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a 12-hole (⅓-cup/80ml) muffin pan with paper patty cases.
2.Make cake according to directions on packet. Pour ¼ cup of mixture into each hole and bake about 20 minutes. Stand cakes in pan 5 minutes; turn onto wire rack to cool.
3.To make butter cream, beat butter in a small bowl with an electric mixer. Gradually beat in half the icing sugar and beat until as white as possible. Add milk and continue beating, then add remaining icing sugar. Beat until a smooth, spreadable consistency.
4.Tint butter cream with orange colouring; spread over patty cakes. For each cake, cut 10 thin slices on an angle from licorice straps for stripes. For each cake, cut two thin strips from licorice straps for mouths.
5.Position green M&Ms for eyes, jelly beans for noses, licorice for stripes and mouths, and red M&M’s for tongues. Trim orange and black layers from licorice allsorts; cut into triangles to form ears. Secure orange layers onto black layers with a little black decorating gel; allow to dry then position on cakes. Using black decorating gel, pipe lines on eyes for pupils.
