Method

1.To make butter cream, beat butter until white as possible, gradually beat in half the sifted icing sugar then milk, then remaining icing sugar. Beat until smooth.
2.Secure two sponges onto 30cm x 40cm (12-inch x 16-inch) rectangular cake board with a little butter cream.
3.Using a serrated knife, cut one of the remaining sponges into a 12cm square for head. Cut the remaining cake in half to make legs. Secure cakes to the cake board with a little butter cream.
4.Tint two-thirds of the butter cream blue. Tint remaining butter cream red.
5.Using picture as a guide, spread the blue butter cream over the top and sides of robot body. Spread the red butter cream over top and sides of head. Position macaroons as robots arms; secure with a little butter cream.
6.Push two of the sour tube halves onto 2 bamboo skewers; place a blue allsort on one end and a red and yellow fruit roll on the other end. Push into cake as antennae. Secure remaining sour tubes to make the mouth.
7.Cut two red fruit rolls into claws, as pictured; secure to the end of the macaroons.
8.Trim the red licorice tube into an arrow shape. Using picture as a guide, decorate robot’s head and body with the remaining lollies; secure decorations with a little butter cream.

Macaroons are available from speciality bakery shops and select supermarkets. If you can’t find them, any small round filled biscuit will do. Try mini Oreos or Wagon Wheels, or Monte Carlos. Colour the butter cream, and decorate the robot, using any colours and lollies you like. Fruit Mentos and Smarties come in pastel colours, if you prefer these shades to the bolder ones used here.
