.Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced). Grease 20cm x 30cm lamington pan; line base and long sides with baking paper, extending paper 5cm over sides.
.Make cake according to directions on packet. Spread mixture into pan; bake about 35 minutes. Stand cake in pan 5 minutes; turn onto wire rack to cool.
.Cut six 12cm stars from the cake.
.Divide butter cream into three small bowls; tint each with one of the suggested colours: pink, yellow and orange.
.Spread tops and sides of two of the stars with pink butter cream; repeat with remaining stars and butter cream. Position wands on the prepared board, leaving space for the handles; secure with a little butter cream.
.Position fruit sticks to make handles for the wands. Cut 60 x 1.5cm lengths of sour strap; position 10 pieces around sides of each star to define the shape. Place the small cutter in the centre of a star, sprinkle glitter inside the cutter; carefully remove the cutter. Repeat with remaining stars. Using picture as a guide, decorate the wands with cachous.

You will need a star cutter 3.5cm, and a 36cm x 48cm prepared cake board. Freeze the star-shaped cakes for about an hour, this will minimise the cake crumbs mixing with the butter cream. A circle of magic wands on a round board is a great center piece for a party table. Don’t be too fussy spreading the butter cream around the sides of the stars, the strips of sour straps will hide any mistakes.
