The tangy sweetness of apple sour cream slice makes it a classic tea-time treat (or even dessert). This recipe uses a cake mix and coconut for a fluffy, yet textured base that contrasts nicely with the apple and sour cream. It’s also easy enough to make on your own or with the whole family.

Apple sour cream slice notes and tips
- Pie apple cans and tins are available at all major supermarkets and typically contain Granny Smith apples that are sliced and ready for adding to recipes like this one or apple pie (where the name comes from).
- If you want to use fresh apples, you could try this stewed apple recipe, although you would need scales to make sure the stewed amount was the same as the can used in this recipe.
- While this recipe calls for a 300 gram carton of sour cream, if you want to buy more you could use our handy guide to cup vs weight in grams to measure out the required amount (or scales if you have them)
- Butter cake mix comes in different sizes, so if you get a larger packet, remember to only use what’s required for this recipe. Depending on how much is leftover, you could use the rest to make these mini flower cakes, or save it for next time you want to make this apple slice.
