1.Preheat oven to 180°C; grease and line two deep 15cm x 25cm loaf pans and two 8cm x 26cm bar cake pans.
2.Make cakes according to directions on packets. Divide two-thirds of the mixture between loaf pans, divide remaining mixture equally between bar pans; bake loaf cakes about 40 minutes and bar cakes about 25 minutes.
3.Stand cakes in pans 5 minutes; turn onto wire racks to cool. Using serrated knife, level cake tops.
4.Trim sides and ends off loaf cakes to form ship hull, using picture as a guide. Position on 34cm x 43cm prepared rectangular board.
5.Round off one end of one bar cake, cut remaining bar cake in half; position on top of ship hull to form second deck. Cut remaining half of bar cake in half lengthways to make upper deck.
6.Trim ice-cream cone tops to make funnels; position on cake.
7.To make butter cream; beat butter until white as possible, gradually beat in half the sifted icing sugar then milk, then remaining icing sugar. Beat until smooth.
8.Tint one-third of the butter cream with green colouring; tint one-third of the remaining butter cream with orange colouring, one-third with yellow colouring and 1 tablespoon with blue colouring. Reserve remaining butter cream.
9.Spread reserved plain butter cream over tops of decks and funnels on ship. Spread sides of hull with green butter cream. Spread sides of second deck with orange butter cream. Spread sides of upper deck with yellow butter cream. Spread blue butter cream over second deck to make swimming pool.
10.Cut five allsorts in half (keep one yellow allsort aside); position allsorts and Life Savers around sides of ship as portholes. Press ends of cotton wool onto funnels to make smoke.
11.Cut green fruit rings open and thread onto skewer to make mast. Position on ship.
12.Cut licorice strap into thin strips; position on cake for deck outlines. Position remaining licorice along top of ship.
13.Cut yellow piece out of remaining allsort, cut in half diagonally; insert toothpick into each yellow piece; press into ship for flags.
You will need to buy four 22g packets of Life Savers for this cake. Be sure to remove toothpicks, cotton wool and skewer from cake before cutting and serving.Note
