1.Preheat oven to 150°C. Grease a 20cm x 10cm loaf pan and line sides with baking paper, extending paper 5cm above sides of pan.
2.In a small bowl, beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in figs, ginger and walnuts and mix well. Stir in sifted flours and sour cream; mix well.
3.Spread mixture into pan. Bake cake about 1 hour or until cooked when tested. Stand cake in pan for 10 minutes before turning top-side up onto a wire rack to cool. Dust with sifted icing sugar before serving, if desired.
