Method

1.Preheat oven to moderately slow, 160°C. Lightly grease and flour 2 nut loaf tins. Line base lids with baking paper. Place bases on tins and stand upright on a baking tray.
2.In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar together until combined. Add eggs and beat well.
3.Sift flour and spices together. Fold into creamed mixture alternately with milk. Lightly mix in dates and pecans.
4.Divide mixture evenly between tins. Place lids on. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until cooked when tested. Cool slightly. Remove lid and cake. Serve sliced with butter.
