No one need ever know that this delicious upside down banana cake came from a packet. Jazz it up with a few extras, such as adding star anise to the caramel, everyone will think you are so creative.

Preheat oven to 170°C (150°C fan-forced). Grease and line deep 20cm-round cake pan.

Stir butter and brown sugar in small saucepan over low heat until smooth. Spread mixture over base of pan; top with bananas.

Combine buttercake mix, eggs, butter and milk in medium bowl. Beat on low speed with electric mixer until ingredients are combined. Increase speed to medium; beat 3 minutes.
4.
Pour mixture over bananas; bake about 50 minutes. Stand cake in pan 5 minutes before turning, top-side down, onto serving plate.
