1.Preheat oven to 150°C (130°C fan forced).Grease and flour cake pan.
2.Make cake according to directions on packet. Pour mixture into pan, bake about 50 minutes. Stand cake in pan 5 minutes, turn, top-side up, onto wire rack to cool.
3.Level top of cake, place cake, top-side down, on cake board. Brush cake all over with jam.
4.Knead ready-made icing on surface dusted with sifted icing sugar until icing loses its stickess, tint icing lemon.
5.Roll icing on sugared surface until large enough to cover cake, lift icing onto cake, smooth icing with sugared hands. Trim icing neatly around base of cake.
6.Using picture as a guide, gently push roses into unset icing on cake in the shape of a heart. Tie ribbon around cake after icing has set.

Equipment Deep 15cm (6-inch) square cake pan 25cm (10-inch) square prepared cake board If the icing is set on the cake, you can attach the roses using a tiny dab of apricot jam. The ribbon is easier to tie around the cake if the icing is set. The cake can be completed about three days before the party.
