1.Heat oil in a large. heavy-based saucepan on high.
2.Dust steak in seasoned flour, shaking off excess. Brown in 3 batches for 2-3 minutes. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
3.Add onions to same pan. Cook over medium heat for 4-5 minutes, onions have softened and browned. Stir mushrooms through. Cook for a further 2-3 minutes.
4.Return beef to pan with combined water, stock and tomato paste. Bring to the boil.
5.Reduce heat to low and simmer covered, for 1 1/2 hours.
6.Remove lid and cook for further 1/2 hour until beef is very tender and sauce has thickened slightly, serve with mashed potatoes and beans.
