Cooked in the air fryer, this crispy five spice chicken is an easy stir fry recipe, made without standing over a wok! Bursting with flavour, this is a wonderful recipe to add into your weeknight dinner rotation. It may not be the traditional way to cook a stir fry, but it’s quick, easy and delicious.
Ingredients
Method
Preheat air fryer to 200°C for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, place chicken, soy, shaoxing, five spice, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a large bowl and toss well to coat. You can leave this to marinate, refrigerated for up to 24 hours.
Sprinkle over cornflour and baking powder and toss to coat. This will be a sticky coating.
Spray the basket of an air fryer with oil. Add the chicken in a single layer (do this in batches if needed). Spray with a little more oil and cook at 200°C for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally, or until golden and crisp. Remove and set aside.
Add the capsicum and white parts of the onion to the basket. Drizzle with sesame oil and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until tender.
Add the wombok and the chicken to the basket. Cook for 4-5 minutes, or until wombok is just tender.
Place stir fry ingredients into a serving bowl. Drizzle over combined honey, soy and vinegar and toss to coat.
Serve chicken stir fry with steamed rice, the green parts of the onions and crispy chilli oil.
