Sichuan steak with mushroom salad

Rare, grilled steak with sichuan pepper is gorgeous served with a spicy mushroom, fennel and onion salad. A light, savoury and satisfying meal.

1.Heat oiled grill plate (or grill pan or barbecue).
2.Grind pepper and salt in mortar and pestle until coarse. Combine beef, 1 tablespoon of the oil, and the pepper mixture in medium bowl. Cook beef about 5 minutes each side or until cooked. Remove from heat, cover; stand 5 minutes.
3.Meanwhile, trim fennel. Thinly slice fennel, mushrooms and chilli. Coarsely chop onions. Finely grate lemon rind (you need 1 teaspoon rind); squeeze juice (you need 1 tablespoon juice).
4.Heat rice according to directions on packet.
5.Whisk rind, juice, sauce and remaining oil in large bowl until combined. Add fennel, mushrooms, onion, chilli and spinach; toss gently. Season to taste.
6.Slice beef thinly; serve with salad, sprinkle with mint and accompany with rice.
