Method

1.Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced). Grease a 20cm ring pan, line base with paper; grease paper.
2.Combine butter, rind, sugar, eggs, sifted flours and orange juice in small bowl of electric mixer, beat on lowest speed until ingredients are combined. Increase speed to medium, beat 2 minutes or until mixture changes in colour and is smooth. Stir in dates; spread mixture into prepared pan. Bake for about 40 minutes. Stand 2 minutes, before turning on to wire rack to cool.
3.To make orange frosting; beat butter and rind in small bowl with electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add sifted icing sugar and orange juice, beat until frosting is spreadable.
4.Top cold cake with frosting, decorate with shredded orange rind if desired.
