We’ve taken the classic fried pickle chips, aka ‘frickles’, and made them that little bit healthier in your air fryer. They’re coated in a panko breadcrumb and buttermilk coating that has a hint of heat from chilli sauce, which is why these pickle chips pair so well with ranch dipping sauce.

Ingredients
Method
Place flour in a shallow bowl. Lightly beat buttermilk and chilli sauce in a second shallow bowl. Place breadcrumbs in a third shallow bowl. Dust pickles in flour, shaking off excess, dip in buttermilk mixture, then coat in breadcrumbs. Spray generously all over with cooking spray.
Preheat a 7-litre air fryer to 200°C/400°F for 3 minutes.
Taking care, place one-third of the pickles, in a single layer, in the air fryer basket; at 200ËšC/400ËšF, cook for 6 minutes until pickles are golden. Transfer to a plate. Repeat cooking with the remaining pickles.
Meanwhile, to make ranch dipping sauce, combine remaining ingredients in a small bowl.
Sprinkle pickle chips with salt flakes and serve with ranch dipping sauce.
What to serve with pickle chips?

We’ve served ours with a cooling ranch dressing that helps balance the spice in the pickle chip coating. Make sure to use a whole-egg mayonnaise for the best flavour.
