Pigs in blankets are a fun retro party recipe. Traditionally made with puff pastry, we’ve used store bought pizza dough in this twist on the classic.

Pizza dough balls are available at some major supermarkets. Alternatively, make your own using this recipe.

Ingredients

Method

1.

Prepare dough following packet directions.

2.

Preheat a 7-litre air fryer to 180°C/350°F for 3 minutes.

3.

Pierce sausages using a fork. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Taking care, place sausages in the basket; at 180°C, cook for 10 minutes or until cooked through.

Set aside to cool.

4.

Meanwhile, on a lightly greased, clean work surface, roll dough into a 12cm x 24cm (4¾in x 9½in) rectangle. Cut lengthways into six strips.

5.

Wrap one strip of dough around each sausage to form a spiral: press dough together on each end to firmly seal. Brush dough all over with egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds.

6.

Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Taking care, place half the sausage buns in the basket; at 180°C, cook for 8 minutes or until golden and cooked through. Transfer to a plate. Repeat cooking remaining sausage buns.

7.

Serve sausage buns warm with tomato or barbecue sauce.
