Bread sauce

Bread sauce is a classic English accompaniment to roast chicken or beef dishes.

1.Trim the crust from the bread. Tear bread into pieces and process into crumbs.
2.Press cloves into the onion.
3.Heat milk gently in a small saucepan with onion, bay leaves and allspice. Simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes. Stand, covered, 10 minutes.
4.Strain milk into a bowl, stir in breadcrumbs. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
