These air fryer chicken drumsticks are marinated in an easy Portuguese-style sauce for two hours, then air fried until deliciously golden, sticky and spicy.
Ingredients
Method
To make marinade, place garlic, chilli and oregano in a small food processor or blender; blend until chopped finely. Add vinegar, oil, sugar, paprika and salt; process until combined.
Place chicken in a large shallow dish; add marinade and toss to coat. Cover dish with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 2 hours.
Preheat a 7-litre air fryer to 200ËšC for 3 minutes.
Taking care, place drained chicken in the air fryer basket; at 200ËšC, cook for 25 minutes, turning halfway through cooking time, or until cooked through.
Heat drained marinade in a small saucepan for 3 minutes until reduced and thickened slightly, then use to baste the chicken while cooking.
Test Kitchen tip
How long do air fryer chicken drumsticks take to cook?
Drumsticks will take around 25 minutes to cook in the air fryer at 200ËšC. To check if chicken is cooked, pierce with a skewer at the thickest part to check for juices – if the juices are pink, they’re not ready, if the juices are clear, the chicken is done. Or insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part; the internal temperature should reach 75°C.
To ensure even browning, turn chicken drumsticks halfway through the cooking time. To prevent overbrowning, ensure sufficient distance between the top of the drumsticks and the cooking element, or cover the drumsticks with foil to shield.
