How to cook the perfect steak

Who can resist a perfectly cooked, juicy steak?
Steaks with horseradish cream and balsamic beets

Whether served with mashed potato and veg, a side salad and chips or on crispy, warm bread for the ultimate steak sandwich, a perfectly cooked steak is always welcome.

Luckily, our Test Kitchen experts have an easy-as technique to follow that will have you turning out restaurant-quality steak, every time.

Step 1: Trim any fat from the steaks, while preheating a chargrill pan or a barbecue plate on high.

Step 2: Brush your steaks with oil and season with salt and pepper; cook your steak for two to three minutes, until moisture begins to pool on the surface.

Step 3: Turn only once. Cook for one to two minutes until the steak feels springy to touch.

Step 4: Remove to a plate, cover loosely with foil and rest for about five minutes.

Then it’s time to dish up with your favourite sides and sauce; try filet mignon with bearnaise sauce or a classic peppercorn cream sauce.

Enjoy!
