Method

1.Using an electric mixer, beat butter, sugar and golden syrup in a small bowl until light and creamy. Add egg; beat until well combined. Sift flour and bicarbonate of soda over butter mixture; stir to form a soft dough. [KIDS Turn onto a lightly floured surface. then knead until smooth. Pat dough into a rectangle; wrap in plastic food wrap. Chill for 15 minutes]
2.Preheat oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced). Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Roll dough between sheets of baking paper to make a 36x24cm rectangle. Trim edges to a 30×21 cm rectangle. Cut in half. Cut each half into 6 X 10.5x5cm rectangles. Re-roll remaining dough to make more rectangles. Gently lift rectangles onto prepared trays. [KIDS Using a 2cm round pastry cutter, cut 3 holes from each rectangle to make the traffic lights.]
3.Remove wrappers from lollipops and place colours into 3 separate Zip-lock bags. Wrap bags in a towel, then gently crush lollies with a rolling pin. Discard lollipop sticks. [KIDS Fill holes in biscuits with a little of the crushed lollipop. Start at the top with the red, then orange, then green.] Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven. Cool on trays (biscuits will firm).

Bake the small rounds that are cut from the dough for tiny treats.
