Most Aussies know a sloppy joe as a fleecy jumper you wear in winter, but these ones are still great for winter but will warm you up from the inside instead.

A rich savoury mince mixture served on soft white hot dog buns with iceberg lettuce and parsley, try them out for dinner tonight. You could also serve on a brichoe bun or jacket potato if you prefer.

Ingredients

Method

1.Heat oil in a 4.5-litre (18-cup) slow cooker on sear (HIGH) setting; cook onions, garlic, pork and veal, stirring, for 5 minutes or until browned. Add spices; cook, stirring, for 1 minute or until fragrant.
2.Add syrup, vinegar and paste. Cook, covered, on low, for 6 hours.
3.Increase heat to reduce setting on high; simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes or sauce is thick.
4.Serve in soft brioche rolls or long hot dog rolls, or on mashed potato or with french fries. If serving in rolls, sandwich with sliced red radish, shredded iceberg lettuce and small fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves.

For a Mexican version, add a drained can of kidney beans and serve with pickled jalapeños.

Suitable to freeze at the end of step 3.
