Scary monster cupcakes

Using bought cake makes these creepy decorated cakes a breeze to put together for Halloween or a little monster's birthday party.

Ingredients

Scary monster cupcakes
  • 500 gram chocolate block cake
  • 453 gram tub vanilla frosting
  • black and green food colouring
Green monster decorations
  • 6 green lollypops
  • 6 white marshmallows
  • 3 black licorice sticks
  • 2 red sour fruit rings
Grey monster decorations
  • 4 sugar-free double d pink jelly rounds
  • 4 teeth lollies
  • 2 musk sticks, halved
  • 2 black licorice sticks
White monster decorations
  • 16 centimetre licorice strap
  • 1 black licorice stick
  • 2 brown mini m&m's
  • 2 yellow sour fruit rings
  • 3 centimetre piece red sour strap, halved
  • 8 centimetre piece rainbow sour strap (blue part only), halved
Equipment
  • 30 centimetre rectangular cake board

Method

    Cut cake into six 6cm squares. Divide frosting into three bowls. Tint one bowl grey with black colouring and one bowl green with green colouring; leave remaining bowl white. Spread two cakes with each colour.

    Using picture as a guide, decorate monster faces with lollies, cutting lollies as required.

Notes

Any leftover lollies can be used in lolly bags or in a piñata.
