1.Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes or until plums, garlic, ginger and onion have softened completely.
2.Remove star anise and cinnamon or cassia and push mixture through a coarse sieve.
Roasted chicken wings
3.Preheat oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced). Remove the tips from chicken wings. Halve the wings into drumettes or wingettes. Marinate chicken in dark soy sauce, honey, tablespoons vegetable oil and garlic. Roast in oven for 20 minutes or until browned.
4.Serve chicken wings with plum sauce.
