Mulled wine

The classic winter warmer drink made from red wine, orange liqueur along with various spices.

Ingredients

Mulled wine
  • 750 millilitre bottle red wine
  • 2 tablespoon cointreau or orange liqueur
  • 1 cup (250ml) water
  • 2 x 5cm pieces orange rind
  • 2 oranges, juice of
  • 1/2 cup (110g) caster sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise

Method

Mulled wine
  • 1
    Combine wine, Cointreau, water, orange rind and juice, sugar and spices in a large saucepan. Bring to the boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Simmer for 5 minutes or until warmed through and some of the alcohol has evaporated.
