Ingredients

Hot fudge sauce
  • 200 gram dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3/4 cup cream
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 250 gram butter, chopped
  • 200 gram milk chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cup caster sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 3/4 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup thickened cream, whipped

Method

    Preheat oven to moderately slow, 160°C. Grease and line a 20cm square cake pan.

    In a saucepan, combine butter, chocolate, sugar and milk. Stir over low heat, without boiling, until smooth.

    Sift flours together and blend into chocolate mixture with eggs and vanilla.

    Pour into pan. Bake 1 hour 10 minutes, until cooked when tested.

    Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn onto a wire rack to cool completely. Cut in half horizontally and fill with cream.

    To make the hot fudge sauce; in a saucepan, combine chocolate, cream, sugar and vanilla. Heat on low, 3-4 minutes, stirring, until melted. Keep warm. Spoon sauce over cake to serve.
