Homemade sausage rolls
  • 500 gram sausage mince
  • 500 gram beef mince
  • 1 carrot, coarsely grated
  • 1 zucchini, coarsely grated
  • 3/4 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoon barbecue sauce
  • 6 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

    In a large bowl, combine sausage and beef mince, carrot, zucchini, breadcrumbs. onion, 1 egg, paste and sauce. Combine well with clean hands moistened with a little water, or with a spoon. Season to taste.

    On a large chopping board, cut each pastry sheet in half with a sharp knife. Spoon mince mixture into a large piping bag. Pipe mince along one long edge of each half of pastry. Roll up tightly to seal. Divide into 6.

    Arrange rolls on trays lined with baking paper about 3cm apart. Whisk remaining egg in a small bowl and brush over sausage rolls. Sprinkle rolls liberally with the sesame seeds. Bake in preheated oven, 200°C, for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.


If you don't have a piping bag, snip about 2.5cm off the corner of a plastic freezer bag and pipe through this instead.
