Ham and pineapple pizza

Ham and pineapple pizza might be named after a US state and be the most popular pizza order in Australia but Hawaiian pizza is, in fact, a Canadian invention.

Ham and pineapple pizza
  • 150 gram sliced ham
  • 450 gram can pineapple pieces
  • 1 packaged pizza base (about 27cm across)
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2/3 cup grated "pizza" cheese (a packaged combination of cheeses)

    Turn oven to 230°C. Cut ham into thin strips on a chopping board. Tip pineapple in a strainer over a medium bowl (keep the juice to drink or make ice blocks). Mix ham and pineapple together in a small bowl.

    Put the pizza base on a pizza tray or large oven tray. Spread the tomato paste over the top surface of pizza base until it is evenly covered.

    Sprinkle half of the cheese over the pizza. Sprinkle ham and pineapple on top. Finish with the rest of the cheese.

    Put pizza in the oven and bake, about 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted. Slice into 8 slices, and serve.
