Ingredients

Apple chocolate cake
  • 185 gram butter
  • 1 1/4 cup caster sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 apples, peeled, quartered
  • 2 cup self-raising flour
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon soft butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk

    Grease a 23cm square slab pan, line base with paper; grease paper.

    Combine butter, sugar, eggs, blended cocoa, soda and water, apple and flour in processor, process until mixture is smooth. Pour into prepared pan.

    Bake in moderate oven for about 1 hour. Stand 5 minutes before turning on to wire rack to cool. Spread cold cake with icing.

    Meanwhile, to make chocolate icing; Sift icing sugar and cocoa into small heatproof bowl, stir in butter and enough milk to make a stiff paste. Stir over hot water until icing is spreadable.
