Air fryer fried cauliflower with sumac

Make fried cauliflower in your air fryer. Use the popular appliance for this low carb, low fat, vegan alternative to popcorn chicken.


  • 1/3 cup (50g) plain flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups (110g) panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • ¼ cup finely chopped coriander
  • ½ medium cauliflower (750g), cut into small florets
  • olive oil cooking spray
  • 1 cup (280g) greek yoghurt
  • 1 ground sumac
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • to serve: sea salt flakes

    Place flour in a shallow bowl. Lightly beat eggs in a second shallow bowl. Combine the breadcrumbs, cumin, garlic salt and half the coriander in a third shallow bowl. Dust cauliflower florets in flour, shaking off excess, dip in egg, then coat in breadcrumb mixture. Spray generously all over with cooking spray.

    Preheat a 7-litre air fryer to 180°C/350°F for 3 minutes.

    Taking care, line the air fryer basket with a silicone mat, if available. Place cauliflower in the basket; at 180°C/350°F, cook for 12 minutes, turning halfway through cooking time, until golden and tender.

    Meanwhile, to make sumac and garlic yoghurt, combine yoghurt, sumac, garlic and the remaining coriander in a small bowl, then season.

    Sprinkle cauliflower with salt flakes and serve with sumac and garlic yoghurt.
