Method

1.Grease a 23cm square slab pan, line base with paper; grease paper. Preheat oven to 160°C.
2.Heat golden syrup and milk in saucepan, cool to room temperature.
3.Cream butter and sugar in small bowl with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time until combined. Transfer mixture to large bowl.
4.Stir in the sifted dry ingredients with the syrup mixture and water. Pour into prepared pan, bake about 1¼ hours. Stand 10 minutes before turning on to wire rack to cool.
5.To make chocolate frosting, melt chocolate over hot water, cool; do not allow to set. Cream butter and sifted icing sugar until light and fluffy, beat in egg yolk and chocolate.
6.Top cold cake with chocolate frosting.
