Incoming: chocolate, bunnies, hot cross buns and more chocolate.
Easter egg mousse

Is it any wonder that Easter is our favourite time of year? It brings an abundance of hot cross buns (who knew they could be so versatile? See the recipes below), gives us many reasons to bake and an excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast.

It’s one of those holidays that we wish lasted longer than four days so we’ve decided to kick-off our Easter recipes extra early this year.

From traditional cakes and trifles to handmade treats that will be fun to create with little ones. They’re all quick and easy to make and every bit as indulgent as you’d hope.

01

Hot cross bun pudding

Don’t let any leftover hot cross buns go to waste; layer them with butter, cinnamon sugar and drizzle in custard for a delightfully old-school pudding. Serve with raspberries and cream. Our preferred buns for this recipe are the award-winning Bakers Delight Traditional Hot Cross Buns.

02

Mini meringue nests

A sweet after-lunch snack that big kids and little kids will enjoy. This is an easy treat to pre-prepare — the meringue nests can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container so you’ll only need a few minutes on the day to decorate.

03

Choc chip hot cross bun s’mores

You don’t have to be on a camping trip to enjoy some s’mores, but if you are, great! Either way, indulge in this delicious seasonal twist on the classic recipe which swaps biscuits with Bakers Delight Choc Chip Hot Cross Buns. Guaranteed to impress.

04

Simnel cake

Simnel cake is the traditional cake to eat on Easter Sunday. While the classic fruit cake with marzipan may not be everyone’s idea of ‘easy’, we encourage you to try the recipe if you have a couple of hours spare. It’s relatively straightforward, plus the cake keeps for up to a month.

05

Easter egg mousse

These cute-as-a-button dessert eggs are always a hit. The hollow chocolate eggs are filled with smooth chocolate caramel mousse and topped with Persian fairy floss. Make them the night before your gathering so there’s no chance of dippy eggs!

06

Easter trifle

Don’t let Christmas monopolise this quick and easy dessert. For an Easter twist, use hot cross buns as both the base and a show-stopping garnish. You could use traditional or apple and cinnamon hot cross buns, which both complement the usual trifle suspects.

07

White chocolate Easter bunny cupcakes

With fluffy butter cream icing, bright pink cases and white chocolate ears, these fun cupcakes are great crowd-pleasers. A fun activity to do with the kids one weekend or during the Easter holidays, we suggest “cheating” and baking the cakes another day — they’re suitable to freeze — and then decorating together as a family.

08

Easter egg rocky road

As you may have already guessed, Easter recipes involve a lot of chocolate — and a lot of Easterfying our favourite recipes. This easy rocky road recipe will help keep the kids occupied over the Easter long weekend. With marshmallows, Turkish delight and biscuits, it’s got a bit of all the best stuff.

09

Jaffa Hot Chocolate

If you’re a chocolate lover, allow us to introduce your new favourite indulgence. This drink-dessert combo combines zesty hot chocolate, a Bakers Delight Choc Chip Hot Cross Bun and crunchy wafers. Not for the fainthearted, it provides instant gratification for any cacao nut.

10

Carrot cake slice

Lightly spiced with cinnamon, this carrot cake slice is always popular especially if you’ve gone OTT on chocolate before Easter! Piping the decorations is easy if you use a little sandwich bag with the corner snipped off. It’s a fun one to do with the kids.

11

Deep Fried Choc Chip Ice Cream Buns

Did you know that deep fried Bakers Delight Choc Chip Hot Cross Buns make a quick, easy and delicious dessert? Especially when they’re filled with ice cream and topped with a cherry. Don’t believe us? Try one!
